In Word, there are times when you need to know how many words and characters you have in your writing. This need aims to meet the requirements of a client or an employer. Indeed, there are several ways to find out this information. Here, in this article, are some methods to know the character count of a Word text.
First method: using the status bar
It is very easy to know the number of characters in Word while typing. Just take a look at the status bar. It is located precisely above the <> icon on the PC. By glancing at it, you will see 2 inscriptions indicating the number of pages and words.

For more information on the statistics of the text or Word document, click on the button indicating the word count. A window will open and present you with a detailed overview of the text statistics. You will thus be informed about the number of characters (including spaces and excluding spaces). You will also have the number of lines, paragraphs, words, and pages of the Word document.
This applies to an entire document or to a part of the document. It all depends on you.

In fact, note that the character count does not appear directly on the status bar. You must instead hover over the status bar, right-click, and choose the statistics tab.
Check the review tab
By going through the ribbon, it is also possible to obtain the same statistical details on a Word text or document. The procedure to follow here is summarized in two steps.
First, go to the ribbon, find and click on <>. Right-click on the <> button. But before that, you need to go to <>.
Depending on the version of Word you are using, you will find the <> button below or next to the <> button. Once you reach this level (Statistics), you will have the same window as described previously.
Count the number of characters by making a selection
We have already briefly mentioned this in the first paragraph. It is possible to know the character count of a text in its entirety or a part of it.
Indeed, by selecting a portion of text, it is possible through one of the two previous methods to know the exact number of characters and words in the selected part. Therefore, once the part is selected, go either to the ribbon or to the status bar. Look for the statistics tab and click on it. You will see the details of the count performed.
Know that the count is automatically done by the Word software. It is also done as you type.
You will see the number of characters and words in the selected part. This count is made in relation to the total number of characters in the entire text. That is to say: 1245 out of 5679 characters or 27 out of 195 words. That’s a bit how it works at this level.
